Sometimes therapy is not what you need.  There are times when a Health Coach is a better fit for what you are looking for.  This is especially true when you are suffering from chronic pain or other mind-body disorders.  For these situations, I have a separate business providing Health Coaching.

The difference between therapy and health coaching can be difficult to convey.  In therapy, we generally delve deeper into underlying issues, and also are more likely to use the here and now of the therapeutic relationship.  Therapists diagnose and treat mental disorders.  Therapy is usually reimbursable by health insurance. You cannot get health insurance coverage for Health Coaching.  In Health Coaching, there is more emphasis on teaching concepts and how to apply them.  It is more of an educational experience.  

As a practical matter, therapy is usually conducted at least weekly, if not more often.  In Health Coaching, we are generally more flexible in terms of frequency of sessions, and even in the length of each session.  We will work on specific strategies to help you get your life back on track.  This can be for chronic pain and other mind-body disorders, as well as for support groups I provide for people who have lost their therapists.
