Practical Issues

As with everything I do with you, the contract governing our relationship is customized to the needs of the particular situation. My aim is always to provide accurate estimates so that you can budget accordingly. With this in mind, I have found that certain features are important and helpful.

For ongoing work, my experience is that working on a monthly retainer is much better than charging you by the hour. With a retainer, you do not have to wonder how much it's going to cost you every time you pick up the phone to call me or send me an email, and you can budget your resources more predictably. And I am freed from the drudgery of counting minutes so that I can actually focus on the situation at hand. We can agree on a monthly retainer fee based on a mutually agreed upon estimate of my monthly time on your project. If it turns out our estimate is not accurate, we can adjust it next month.

For specific events such as retreats or conferences, I will give you a separate estimate for the cost of my work. This will include preparation time, as well as follow-up or report-writing. Expenses other than my services (supplies, venue costs, food costs) will be your responsibility.

My regular fees are based on an hourly rate. I always work to fit into your budget. And I offer a reduced rate for non-profit groups. Please contact me for more specific information.

We can't do good work if you're worrying about word getting out.  I never disclose who my clients are without asking your permission first.

I aim to accommodate to your schedule as much as possible.  We will work together to see that the work gets done efficiently and in the time frame we agreed upon.

Where do we meet?

Usually I come to you.  In some cases, clients have preferred to privacy afforded by coming to my office in Highland Park.  We can also meet off-site at a mutually determined place.  If a retreat is planned, we can discuss good options for your particular situation and needs.

The Covid-19 pandemic has opened up possibilities that many people hadn't considered before.  Meeting virtually has become routine and easy with applications such as Zoom, MS Teams, or GoTo Meeting.  Hybrid meetings are also now possible with innovative systems such as Owl Labs devices.  Even large group events have become engaging and productive with platforms such as QiqoChat and Spatial Chat, and using virtual white boards such as Miro.  I have experience working with all of these and am happy to share what I have learned to make such meetings effective.  Meeting virtually can save cost on travel and lodging, and reduce challenging logistics and scheduling.  But there are many instances in which there is no substitute for in-person meetings.
